The mechanisms of synaptic transmission and plasticity at the developing synapses are here studied using whole cell patch clamp recordings in neurons. The recording electrodes are guided to visually indentified neurons using micromanipulators which are attached to a microscope stage, all inside a faraday cage minimizing electrical noise. A vibration-free environment is critical for the stability of the recordings.
